Silvia Monge – Costa Rica

Silvia Monge (San José, Costa Rica, 1959) is a visual artist whose career spans several decades. As she herself says about her intimate relationship with watercolor and the act of creating: “For me, painting in watercolor is to travel freely and spontaneously through a wonderful experience.” Her interest in diverse materials and forms of expression has led her to work in ceramics, glass, watercolor, acrylic, and drawing. She approaches each medium through its own challenges and possibilities, discovering how each allows her to express her vision of the world in a unique way.

Initially trained in architecture at the Universidad Autónoma de Centroamérica, she has complemented her education with studies and workshops in various countries, including the United States, Spain, Mexico, India, and Peru, enriching her creative dialogue between tradition and experimentation.

Throughout her career, Silvia Monge has received numerous recognitions, including awards from the Costa Rican Association of Watercolorists, honorable mentions at international watercolor exhibitions, and First Prize for Three-Dimensional Work from ACAV. Her work has been exhibited in over 30 countries across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and she has represented Costa Rica in biennials and international competitions, in addition to serving as a juror for watercolor and glass festivals. She has collaborated with students and colleagues in workshops aimed at fostering experimentation and creativity, and several of her pieces are part of public and private collections, preserving their artistic and technical essence.

Each exhibition, workshop, and project has contributed to her ongoing learning and her drive to share painting and art as a living, personal experience.
