He was born in Kiselevsk, Western Siberia, in 1963, and spent his childhood in the city of Mariupol on the Azov Sea. In 1978 he entered the Secondary Art School named after Boris Ioganson under the Academy of Fine Arts in St-Petersburg. After school he continued his art-education at the St-Petersburg State Academical Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture named after Ilya Repin under the Academy of Arts of the USSR. He graduated in 1989 with the diploma of architect & artist.
Few years after his graduation at the Academy, he worked as an architect at the branch of a large state bureau of projects, and then he had a private architectural project.
Sergey is a prize-winner of a few regional architectural competitions. Since 2003 he has had the honor to teach at the St.Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design. He is Professor in the Artistic Metals Department, and in addition, Associate Professor in the Interior Design Department.
Since he was a student and until the present time, he has always combined all of his professional activities with the artistic practice, and watercolor art has taken a main place there.
His first large solo art exhibition took place in 1993 at the famous Alvar Aalto Library, in Vyborg, Russia. Since then, he has held a number of solo watercolor exhibitions in Russia and abroad. The most recent ones took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2023, and in The Paper & Watermark Museum of the Fabriano, Italy in 2024. He took part in about 100 collective art exhibitions, both Russian, as well international. Sergey has also had curatorial experience in international exhibition projects related to the watercolor art, like the 'From East to West' in the Stieglitz' Academy, and the 'Continent' series.
He is a member of the Russian Union of Artists, the St-Petersburg Society of Watercolor Artists, the German Watercolor Society (DAG), the International Masters of Watercolor Association & Alliance (IMWA), and the FabrianoInAcquarello Advising Committee.
