Prafull B. Sawant was born in 1979 in Nasik, India. He has been considered one of the most important realist artists in the world. He is especially known for his atmospheric Plain Air landscapes, which capture light to create the mood and space of the scene. He is highly sought after around the world for his demonstrations, international Plain Air workshops, conferences and exhibitions, to be a juror in international competitions and to participate in prestigious exhibitions and invitational events such as the '3ème Festival International de peinture de plein air sur grand format', Paris, France (2019, 2020), the 'Moscow International Watercolor Festival', Russia (2017), the '10th Festival International De L'Aquarelle', Aiguillon, France (2017), the 'Artlife Fest-2018 and 2019' in Moscow, Russia, the '5th Lushan International Watercolor Festival' in China (2014), the 'Qingdao Art Museum' in China (2014), the 'Festival Internacional de Acuarela' in Peru (2019), Fabriano In Aquarello, Italy (2016, 2018, 2019) and more.

He has won 42 international awards for his watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings. He was the first and only artist from India to win the prize at the 148th International Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society held in New York (2015). He won first prize at the '10th Festival De L'Aquarelle' in Aiguillon, France (October 2017). He has also participated in oil painting at the 'Artistic Excellence International Painting Competition' organized by Southwest Art Magazine in Colorado, USA (2011), at the 'Palm Art Award-Leipzig' in Germany (2011, 2014), the '72nd International Exhibition of the Northwest Watercolor Society' in Washington, USA (2012), the silver prize at the 'Dawei International Art Exhibition' in Jinan, organized by the Qilu Art Museum, China (2017), the '34th International Watercolor Art Society Exhibition' in Houston, USA (2011), the Northwest Watercolor Society, Washington, USA (2012), Sandiago Watercolor Society, USA (2009, 2011), 'Fabriano In Acquarello' Maxi Paint Performance award in Italy (2016), the International Watercolor Triennale Exhibition (IWS), Verna, Bulgaria (2017, 2019), Tsseilenoki Watercolor, Greece (2017), International Watercolor Museum, Talouc, Mexico (2018), International Watercolor Triennale, Verna, Sofia, Bulgaria (2016, 2019). He received a $4000 USD 1st prize at the International Watercolor Society's Homer Love n Peace International Watercolor Festival at the international watercolor competition in Bornowa, Izmir, Turkey, among other international credits.
