Born in Kuantan (Pahang, Malaysia) in 1970, he graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the Kuala Lumpur Academy of Fine Arts in 1991. In 1994, he received a scholarship to go to the Art Students League, the oldest art academy in the United States, and trained at the largest art school in the United States under the guidance of watercolor master Mario Cooper.
Influenced by the spirit of American contemporary art that emphasizes self-expression, avant-garde and dares to break tradition, Jansen Chow's works focus on originality, combining expressionist geometric abstract grammar composition, romantic and intuitive use of color, combined with acrylic. The application of the medium, with his aesthetic flair, is especially rare among watercolor artists.
Jansen Chow is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society (AWS) and the National Watercolor Society (NWS). Jansen has had 18 solo exhibitions and participated in over 400 national and international watercolor exhibitions since 1992.
He has won over 60 national and international watercolor, oil, printmaking and photography awards since 1988, including first place 9 times in watercolor competitions in the United States, Canada, Turkey and Malaysia. He has recently been appointed as a global brand ambassador for Daniel Smith brand.
